Motion Capture MOCAP Studio
3D, performance capture and AI in Montreal Human performance as the foundation,
AI as the accelerator

Studio du Château is a MOCAP studio in Montreal specialized in motion capture and performance capture for digital characters, 3D animation, video games, avatars, virtual production and interactive projects. Capturing human performance allows rich, precise and embodied data to enter the digital pipeline, instead of relying only on an intention described through text.

3D and motion capture are becoming essential in new AI-assisted production workflows. By capturing the body, face, hands, voice and acting intention, creators gain better control over staging, animation and artistic direction. MOCAP data gives AI more relevant information than a simple prompt, reducing random interpretation and bringing the result closer to the creative vision.

Our OptiTrack, Xsens and real-time visualization tools make it possible to see characters moving during the capture session, including with iClone, Unreal Engine and other 3D environments. We can support simultaneous performances, test movement live and provide data adapted to Unreal, Unity, Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D and the new AI-assisted animation production methods.

MOCAP Workflow
from human performance to digital character Capture, visualization, 3D integration
and AI-assisted animated production

Preparing the capture before the session helps control the final result with more precision. We discuss the number of characters, performance space, actor interactions, real-set constraints, the 3D environment and the type of data required for your animation pipeline.

Capturing human performance with precision provides a richer foundation than a simple written intention. With Xsens, OptiTrack, facial capture, Manus gloves and voice capture, the movement of the body, face, hands and acting performance can be transferred to digital characters.

Visualizing and integrating the performance in 3D helps creators validate motion, intention and staging. With iClone, Unreal Engine and other 3D environments, MOCAP becomes a creative control tool for animation, virtual production and new AI-assisted workflows.

Let’s prepare your capture

A visit to Studio du Château is often the best way to prepare a MOCAP project. It allows us to discuss the type of capture required, the number of characters, actor interactions, performance space, real-set constraints, 3D integration and real-time visualization.

Whether your project involves Xsens, OptiTrack, facial capture, Manus gloves, iClone, Unreal Engine, 3D avatars, digital characters or virtual production, we can welcome you, evaluate your needs and help structure a workflow adapted to your animated creation.

MOCAP FAQ
MOTION CAPTURE
IN MONTREAL

Motion capture · performance capture · digital characters

What is a MOCAP session?
A MOCAP session captures the movement of an actor, dancer or performer and transfers it to a digital character, 3D avatar, animated scene, game project or virtual production workflow.

What is the difference between Xsens and OptiTrack?
Xsens offers mobile motion capture using inertial sensors, while OptiTrack uses an optical studio-based system. The best choice depends on the type of performance, the capture space, the level of precision required and the production pipeline.

Can characters be visualized in real time?
Yes. Depending on the project, captured motion can be visualized on digital characters during the session with tools such as iClone, Unreal Engine or other compatible 3D environments.

Can multiple characters be captured?
Yes. Depending on the selected configuration, we can support simultaneous performances, actor interactions and scenes involving multiple digital characters within the same capture environment.

Why build a real set for MOCAP?
A real set or physical replica of a 3D environment helps actors perform with a better sense of space, distance, obstacles and interaction. This makes it easier to integrate the captured motion into the digital world.

Can MOCAP support AI workflows?
Yes. Motion capture provides precise data based on human performance. This gives 3D pipelines and AI-assisted tools more structured information than a simple text prompt, helping reduce random interpretation.
